What do you think of this quote? I think it's true, if you're looking at the example of scrolling the social media inter- webs and looking at everyone's highlights compared to your less than stellar day- that can quickly and easily steal your joy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

But I find that when I am making the comparisons with the former "me"- measuring my own progress against myself, where I was a year or 5 years ago- it's super helpful in moving me forward to the person I want to be. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Or, I'll throw this out there- how about using the comparison as a motivator? For example, seeing a woman I admire who's farther along in business or life than I am and aiming to be like her? Celebrating where she's at and realizing, hey "I want to be there too!" and then going after it! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Whether I'm on a beach vacation in the sunshine (my favorite) or back home trying to warm up in the Michigan "spring", being outside refreshes and inspires me. After being at home so much last year, I realized it was my daily walks outside with my family + dogs that were one of the most life-giving things in the midst of the weirdness of the world. Since then, I've made it a point to get outside more often, no matter what my schedule and what the weather, and when I do, I can feel the difference in my outlook + attitude.

Yes, you can have fresh flowers in your home regularly without spending a million dollars or spending 5 hours arranging them. Seriously! Flowers are an easy upgrade that instantly brings new energy into your space, and as a busy mama working on all the things, you need that fresh energy in your life.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Next time you're out doing errands, try grabbing a "grocery store" bouquet (or get one delivered in your weekly grocery order if you're like me! 😏) Make your grocery store flowers look amazing by:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Keeping with 1 color palette if possible. My favorite? White! It goes in any room. But you can pick whatever color you're drawn to, if you want to add in some bright accents. If they only have mixed colors, just break apart the bouquet when you get it home and group like flowers/colors together to make new smaller arrangements.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

2. Use clear glass vases to keep it easy, or get creative with mason jars, small ceramic cups, white pitchers- whatever you have laying around that makes you smile. (and it doesn't have to be an actual vase)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

3. Keep arrangements simple- I mean, really simple, like this photo- 3 peonies, glass vase, snip the stems down to size so the blooms are just above the edge of the vase, and DONE. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

What's the first thing that pops into your mind when you think about working with an interior designer? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I've heard so many misconceptions over the years, and many of my clients tell me their experiences surprised them (in a good way!!). The most common ones I hear are: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Interior designers are too expensive. (While it's true that you get what you pay for in terms of expertise- -it's also true that a good designer can SAVE you money/grief in the long run by helping you make prioritized decisions, avoid last minute change orders, and build your design plan according to your budget! We offer different service tiers as well - from our design consultations to full service design)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. Interior designers won't work with what you already have. (Not true- but we WILL tell you if something you have doesn't work in the space, and why, making you happier with the end result. And many times if that's the case we can move the item to another room in your home that fits the piece better!) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. You can DIY everything they can do. (I've actually had clients come back to me who have tried and ended up hiring me again, haha!) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4. Interior designers only design "fancy" homes. (That really depends on the designer! Again, for us at RD this is why we tier our services so we can serve more clients based on their needs. Not everyone needs full service design!)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5. Your contractor can help you make design decisions. (But they really don't want to. 😆 A contractor + designer are an excellent team because we bring different gifts/expertise to the table and I'll leave it at that for now!)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
