3 Easy Tips for a Restful Bedroom Space

Hickory-Point-full-size-27

In the pace of our world, rest and good quality sleep is not always an easy thing to come by at the end of the day. After going full force it can be hard to slow down, breathe and give in to a restful, relaxing sleep experience. While getting good quality sleep can be dependent on a number of factors- there’s one that is often overlooked- your environment! Let’s use your environment as your secret weapon to help you sleep better and feel more rested- following are three changes you can make that lead to a more restful bedroom space:

(1) Go Clutter Free. This doesn’t mean you have to start with your overstuffed closet (although I do recommend making room for that clean out on your schedule in the near future!) If de-cluttering your bedroom feels overwhelming to you, start with your floor! Pick up any clothes piles, shoes, put the laundry away, get rid of those things that are in your bedroom that don’t belong there and see how light and relaxed it makes you feel in your space. You can even break this up into 15-minute increments over time until the space is clear- you’ll be pleasantly surprised with what you can get accomplished in such a short timespan. Once the space is uncluttered, keep it that way with nightly 10-15 minute sessions where you put away the things. Clutter breeds more clutter so if you can put things away each night, it will never get built up to a giant mess again.

(2) Make the bed. A poll conducted by the National Sleep Foundation found that people who make their bed in the morning are 19% more likely to have a good night’s sleep, every night. (Source: https://www.architecturaldigest.com/ )You’ve probably heard this one before- in fact there are even books  written about the benefits of making your bed. Try it for two weeks and see how you feel! In addition to making your bed, consider upgrading your mattress/bedding too. (3) Pay attention to color.  How do the colors in your bedroom make you feel? Color can be so subjective, effecting people differently, so take a second to consider what color palettes make you feel the most at ease after a long day. For some people, that’s the light + bright colors of the beach or warm tones of a sunset, but for others it’s a dark + moody soothing palette of rich greens and black. Give in to your personal style and create a customized room that feels like peace to you and see how that helps you feel more restful at the end of the day.
